Making it happen

Today I had dozens of things that needed doing, but when Dakota woke up he was eager to get his school day started.  It was a laid back day, sort of fly by the seat of your pants.  We started out with science and continued learning about the layers of the Earth and volcanoes.  I put up a poster with wonderful visuals of the inside of a volcano and we talked about that.  We did part of the SchoolExpress Earth packet and then got out our Oriental Trading compass craft and used a hot glue gun to put that together.  Dakota really liked this part!  Afterward he watched a Magic School Bus video MSB Blows It's Top.  For literature today we read Little Quack's Bedtime and Ping for pleasure and then got into a lesson on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, The Ugly Duckling.  Koda liked the story, but completely missed the lesson learned.  We talked about beauty only being skin deep and loving everyone for who they are, no matter what they look like.  Then we did a cloze activity that asked about setting, character and plot.  The last thing we got in was religion and music.  We read the Bible story about Noah and then sang the songs we had and watched them on Youtube videos.  Dakota got a kick out of some of them with the Who Built the Ark song.  He played a couple of Noah's Ark games on the computer and then we read All Afloat With Noah's Boat and called it a day. 

While I took care of the baby and tried to get some things done for co-op tomorrow and cleaned up from today Dakota went to the neighbor's to play.  I could hear them out there playing football and having fun but, of course, when he had to come inside at 6:00 he was full of tears and sad stories because he couldn't stay longer.  He got dressed for scouts and off we went, late again.  Once there, he loved seeing his friends and doing the scout activities and I enjoyed talking to Rhonda and Tom and meeting some new folks that will be in our den.  I let Dakota use his gift card to McDonalds on the way home, got him tucked into bed and finished planning and printing for the New Jersey class I am teaching tomorrow.  It's 11pm and I am exhausted.  Tomorrow looks like co-op early, a little schoolwork and then lots of PCA work for me in the evening while I watch my Wednesday evening shows.  But I am getting ahead of myself.  One day at a a time and it's time for this day to come to a close.  Good Night!

Mardii Gras Tuesday

Today we had to go to the DMV early to get Dakota a photo ID for arena football.  He spent the short wait practicing his shading technique when writing letters.  He was so proud of himself because his older sister showed him how to do this weeks ago and he finally mastered it.  Errands had to be run and we decided to meet up with our favorite friends and have lunch, a short playdate and then do some Mardi Gras school work together.  We read to the boys about the celebration of Mardi Gras and what it is and where it originated.  We did some mapping to see where the celebration is held, did a cloze activity and colored a masquerade mask.  Both boys did a math lesson separately and then we played a very quick game of Disney Apples to Apples before heading out to pick up Dakota's brother and pick up our car from the shop, as well as swinging past the library to pick up our books on hold and let Daktoa get two comic books. The neighbors were waiting for him...

It's Not Easy Being Me

I had a rough evening and an even rougher day because I didn't get much sleep last night.  My heart was hurt, which happens to me more often than to most.  I know that turning 50 in a few weeks is a milestone and in lots of ways I have been preparing in good ways for the "second half of my life".  I am less critical of some things and more critical of others.  I cry rarely these days, but hurt more.  I want more than anything to feel appreciated and yet I feel like the men in my life only notice my existence when they want something I have not provided.  I have a 22 year old son living at home who used to think I walked on air and did no wrong.  Now that he has a Ms. Right in his heart, however, and she is at home in another state for summer break from college, he is extremely moody and often lashes out at me.....something he never did in his 21 years prior.  He is all wrapped up in his future and I am just along to watch.  I am criticized if...

Organization and Sanity go hand in hand!

During my summer "day camp" I have been extremely organized.  The kids have come regularly and I have had a schedule on the door and we have followed it pretty closely.  The kids have gotten along well and we have had a pleasant experience.  Maybe it's me....most likely it is me....because at the moment I honestly can't remember Monday and Tuesday.  Oh yes, Tuesday I was off.  Was that really on two days ago?  Anyway, yesterday I was supposed to have all four "campers".  By 9am I was down to only two.  The boy who joins us occasionally was sick and Dakota's cousin's little brother was very sick and in the hospital so she would not be joining us either.  Dakota and the friend that was here are the easiest two to match up since she is older and brings out a bit more of the quiet side in him.  I had things available to them and we had to take an hour long roundtrip to my work, but all in all, until 3:00, things went well.  However, too...
